Philosophy and Environment
Before the season starts, the coaches of SYA try to assess each players abilities to help place the kids in the league that is appropriate for them. Our goal is to develop each player based on where they are at when they start. We promise to work with each child and try to help them improve their basketball skills. We also promise to provide an environment that teaches good sportsmanship and team work.
Below is information about the various leagues we provide opportunities in
Recreational Leagues (for those new to basketball):Kinderball:Kindergarten and First Grade instructional league held at Harry S Truman Elementary on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-7PM. The season starts the week after Thankgsiving and goes until Mid to end of February. We teach the kids basic fundamentals of basketball in a relaxed, fun environment. We don't play official games at this level. We try to incorporate games in practice to make it fun for the kids while teaching them basketball skills. We allow pre-k in this league if they are 5. We also allow kids that do not attend Salisbury schools.
Truman League:2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade co-ed instructional league held at Harry S Truman Elementary on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-7pm or 7-8pm. Season starts the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and goes until beginning of March. We practice for the first half of the season and play games against each other for the remainder of the season. All games are held on the same nights. No weekends. Our goal is to help teach basic fundamentals in a fun environment. We are more relaxed with the rules and the Truman baskets are set at 9 feet high.
Parkland Recreational League:3/4th grade boys league for beginner players still learning the game. A slightly higher skill is needed to play in this league (compared to Truman League). Practices are held during the week either at Salisbury Middle school or High School. League is played on normal size court with referees and games start in January and are held at Parkland schools. Games are on Saturday. Season runs from beginning of November until March.
Saucon Valley Recreational League:3/4th and 5/6th grade Girls league. Similar to Parkland Recreational league but for girls. Season starts beginning of November and goes until end of February. 5/6th grade games are held at Salisbury Middle School on Sunday afternoon. 3/4th grade games are tbd.
Travel Leagues (Competitive Leagues):
Lehigh Valley Knee High Basketball League (LVKBL):
3/4th, 5/6th. 7th, or 8th grade boys basketball league for the premier basketball players in the Lehigh Valley League. The league is very competitive and we typically place one team in each division annually. Season starts beginning of November and goes until beginning of March. Games and practices vary weekly. 14 games annually and playoffs for teams that qualify. This league is restricted to only Salisbury Township Residents.
3/4th, 5/6th, 7/8th grade boys basketball league. Slightly lower level of skills than LV League. Still considered a very competitive league with very good players. This league can include kids not living in Salisbury Township.
NOTE: Players are allowed to play for both the middle school team and SYA. We do not allow travel players to also play on Rec Leagues. We may double roster players if we potentially need a player to not forfeit.
High School Leagues:
Parkland Rec League:
9/10th and 11/12th grade boys basketball league. The season starts the beginning of December and goes until Mid March. Games are held on Saturday or Sunday games at the LV JCC, Salisbury Middle School, or Parkland schools. We look forward to working with your child.
